Liz & Tom | A September Wedding at Scolton Manor
There’s something incredibly special about choosing to get married after a lifetime of memories together, and Liz and Tom’s wedding was exactly that.
They chose a beautiful, sunny September day to say their vows at Scolton Manor House, on a date that already held so much meaning for them — their 42nd anniversary.
After 42 years together, this wasn’t a day about beginning their story. It was a celebration of everything they had already built together; the years, the family, the memories and the life they share.
The day itself felt wonderfully relaxed and intimate, with a small gathering of their closest friends and family there to celebrate with them. There was no need for fuss or formality for the sake of it, and I loved that Liz and Tom had chosen to do things entirely their own way.
Rather than following a traditional wedding timeline, they decided to see each other and spend time with their guests before the ceremony, including having their own little first look. It was such a lovely reminder that a wedding day doesn't have to follow any particular set of rules. You can simply make it your own.
I actually met Liz and Tom earlier in the year when I photographed their niece's wedding. They hadn't originally planned on having a photographer for their own day, but after seeing me work at that wedding, they changed their minds, which was such a lovely compliment.
They booked my elopement collection, meaning I was only with them for a little part of their celebrations, but it was just enough time to capture some lovely memories of the occasion.
Scolton Manor made such a beautiful setting, especially with the autumn sunshine. After the ceremony, we wandered over to the walled garden for some relaxed photographs of just the two of them. It's such a lovely spot for portraits, with beautiful little corners to explore and plenty of opportunities for those natural moments I love to capture.
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings is that no two stories arrive at the wedding day in quite the same way. Some couples are right at the beginning of their lives together, while others, like Liz and Tom, have decades of shared history behind them.
Forty-two years together and still choosing each other.
Congratulations, Liz & Tom. It was an absolute pleasure to be there to photograph such a special chapter in a story that began a very long time before I arrived with my camera.
